Medica has a strong commitment to our community and a tradition of generosity. Each year, Medica employees raise several hundred thousand dollars to support local charities, social services and various health initiatives in the community. In 2012, Medica CEO David Tilford served as chairperson of the Twin Cities American Heart Association Heart Walk, which was among the top three Heart Walk fundraising events in the United States with more than $2.3 million raised. Almost 600 Medica employees participated and together raised $120,000.
Medica encourages employees to actively volunteer their time to support the health and well-being of the communities in which they live and work. Through our Medica Volunteers program, employees can receive up to 16 hours of Volunteer Time Off annually when they volunteer at eligible community non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations during company time. In addition, Medica will make a donation to eligible organizations on behalf of an employee if they meet program criteria.
In addition to employee giving and community involvement, the Medica Foundation each year supports activities that serve as incubators for ideas, catalysts for systemic change, and bridges to greater insight, information and understanding. The Foundation provides seed money for community-based programs that address the underlying causes and factors inhibiting optimal health.
Medica also partners with several community projects designed to improve the health of all Minnesotans. These include:
- Minnesota Community Measurement — organization offering quality comparisons among provider groups and clinics
- Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement — collaboration of health care organizations provides evidence-graded practical guidelines and technology assessment reports
